Hokitika Gorge Walk

From the car park, follow the walking track for a few minutes through dense podocarp/hardwood forest before emerging onto a viewing platform. From here you can look down to the stunning Hokitika Gorge and out to the lush farmland of Kowhitirangi. This part of the track is accessible for wheelchairs.

From the viewing platform, continue for another 6 minutes along the curving boardwalks and you will reach a swing bridge. From here there are excellent views of the blue-green waters of the Hokitika River as it makes its way through the rock-sided Hokitika Gorge.

Castle Hill

A location and a high country station in New Zealand’s South Island.

It is located at an altitude of 700 meters, close to State Highway 73 between Darfield and Arthur’s Pass. It is private property and located within the Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area.

It is widely considered to be the epitome of New Zealand’s South Island climbing scene, where on any given day one can find rock climbers bouldering the unique limestone outcroppings.

This area has recently seen more visitors, as nearby Flock Hill station was used for the filming of the climactic battle scenes of the 2005 movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes Walk

Explore a limestone landscape of pancake-shaped rock formations, blowholes, and surge pools on this short, paved walk that’s great for children.

This is an all-weather walk around the curious limestone formations of pancake rocks and blowholes. With the exception of an optional short section with steps, the walk is suitable for wheelchairs (with assistance).

Blowholes form from a mixture of compressed water and air escaping through the caverns below and being forced upwards, creating a huge wall of spray. They are at their best around high tide when there is a south-westerly swell.

Spectacular views, geological oddities, coastal forest, rich birdlife, and marine mammals are highlights along this walk.

The Treetop Walkway

An exhilarating treetop adventure among temperate rainforest giants. Experience life with birds high in the ancient Rimu and Kamahi tree canopy. Easy access for all to enjoy along with a steel platform 20m high and 450m long and a spiral tower 45m high.
