Spend the first half of the day travelling from Auckland to Lake Taupo through the rolling green hills and lush farmlands made famous by The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. As you near Taupo, you'll have the opportunity to visit Huka Falls where the mighty Waikato River squeezes through a shallow ravine of hard volcanic rock. The result is 220,000 litres of water blasting over the falls every second. Take a scenic cruise to the Maori Rock Carvings in the afternoon exploring the largest Crater Lake in the world aboard Cruise Cat. Sit back and enjoy the picturesque northern bays of Lake Taupo and view the Maori Rock Carvings up close.
